Recoton wireless speakers are wireless speakers that are manufactured by Recoton Corp. as a leading U.S. manufacturer and distributor of consumer electronics products and accessories. Recoton wireless speakers were first released by Recoton, which marketed them fewer than three brand names: Advent, Acoustic Research and Jensen. Today, Thompson, the mother company of RCA, decided to continue their manufacture.
Anyone who has installed a speaker system knows the worst part is figuring out how to hide the unsightly speaker cables, especially if your speakers are located across the room from the receiver. Using Recoton wireless speakers can resolve the dilemma by eliminating speaker wires altogether. Another big advantage of Recoton wireless speakers is that you will be able to place them wherever you want, either if you want to listen to music in the bathroom, kitchen or even in the backyard. But, of course you will have to be in the specified reception area which is usually 150 to 300 feet from the transmitter.
Like other wireless speakers, the biggest problem of Recoton wireless speakers is the interference. They usually operate in the 900 MHZ FM range and there are also other devices that may work within this range, so there might be some jamming between them. The speakers may usually interfere with older cordless phones or baby monitors.
Most of Recoton wireless speakers are using normal batteries, and only a few models are using a built-in rechargeable battery, such as the one on your cell phone. The cover area of the speakers depends on the model, but usually they have a range of 150 to 300 feet from the transmitter and the waves can penetrate through walls and furniture. Like the normal wired speakers, the wireless speakers come also in different sizes. There are the stereo speakers and also the surround systems.
A pretty good model of Recoton wireless speakers is the Acoustic Research AW871. It includes a pair of speakers and the transmitter. The sound is clear and they deliver the full range of frequencies (the high, mids and lows). Each speaker has a power of 10 Watts, so that means the total power is 20 W which is pretty decent and they can also be used outside.
Each 10-watt speaker of these Recoton wireless speakers employs a 4-inch woofer and 1-inch dome tweeter, with a left/mono/right switch for added versatility. The speakers also include integrated power, volume, and tuning controls along the front faces. In lieu of an AV receiver, listeners can connect the speakers directly to most audio sources, including TVs, DVD players, VCRs, computers, and portable audio devices such as MP3 players. Alternately, they can connect the speakers to the rear channels of 5.1 surround sound receivers and take full advantage of the wireless design.
Each of these Recoton wireless speakers comes with its own AC adapter, even though listeners can also install eight C-cell batteries per speaker for complete cordless use. The speakers even recharge ni-cad and NiMH batteries when plugged into an AC adapter. Other accessories include a 1/4-inch headphone adapter and a “Y” cable that connects the transmitter to the audio source.
